Hermitage Road: Before & After

You might remember back in June I wrote about Hermitage Road, a restaurant/bar in Hitchin, Hertfordshire. Channelling industrial chic in a loft style building with huge windows I fell in love the minute I set foot through the door.

I was lucky enough to meet with Ellene Immelman who led the interior design of the project. She kindly shared with me the photographs of the project progress. Previously a nightclub, Hermitage Road was definitely in need of some TLC, possibly something a little stronger...

Inspired by... Emma Vowles Flowers

Do you ever find sometimes when you're looking for something on the internet that an image will just grab your attention and that's it, you forget your original purpose because your imagination has been well and truly captured? That's what happened to me when I stumbled across the website for Emma Vowles Flowers. I still can't remember what I was looking for now, hopefully it will pop back into my head at some point.

I was so inspired by Emma's story because she started her business small like I did, from the spare room at home and it's grown steadily into a thriving studio with a loyal and faithful band of customers and fans.

You can kind of see why from these images, can't you? I think sometimes floral displays can look so staged and flat in photographs, but these images are so fresh and about as real life as they get.

I also love her little dog Gertie (amazing name!) I wish her shop was a little closer and then I could pop in with AlfiePug. Emma shared this photographs of a walk with Gertie through the Devon countryside, she gets lots of her own inspiration and ideas from the local flowers and foliage around her.

Her flagship store in Totnes, Devon also stocks some really beautiful accessories for the home and garden, I've added this to my must-visit list next time I am in the South-West and it can't come soon enough!

A Weekend Away || Wellisford Manor Barn

A few weeks ago I spent the weekend down in Somerset with a group of girl friends to celebrate a hen weekend. We stayed at Wellisford Manor Barn which is located in a rural valley in deepest Somerset and surrounded by beautiful rolling hills and countryside. It was such a wonderful weekend, super relaxing and I fell in love with the stunning barn that we stayed in.

Excited for Decorex 2012

Hello again! Well it has been a while hasn't it? The last few weeks have certainly disappeared quickly. Just as I got into a nice groove of posting daily to this blog, a house renovation project comes along and ruins everything. If you're interested to see what I've been up to the last 3 weeks take a look over at the Nest Egg blog for the before and after photos, mostly a lot of "befores" but I must remain positive and we are *definitely* making progress. From this weekend onwards I should have more of a regular schedule and be back to posting on a daily basis which I'm happy about as writing this blog is such a pleasure.

Anyway, back to the point of this post. Decorex International is coming up in September and I am so excited! I went last year, just for one day, and honestly it was so inspiring and thrilling to be able to visit such an incredible array of extraordinary designers all under one roof. I left feeling totally blown away and slightly overwhelmed, but very inspired and most of all motivated.

Decorex hand-pick every one of their 300 exhibitors to guarantee only the most innovative, inspirational and highest quality products are shown. I'm super excited to see the launch of The Birds & The Bees collection by Barneby Gates. Vanessa Barneby and Alice Gates design wallpapers in-house and print them using traditional roller printing techniques in the UK. They are launching two new wallpapers to the design world to compliment their existing 23-strong collection and they look stunning. I can't wait to see them up close and in person.

The Fresco Birds wallpaper is a modern take on the ancient art of fresco painting. I love the beaten up looking plaster wall effect complete with paint marks, old nails and graffiti-style scratches.

The geometric pattern of the Honey Bees wallpaper appears so orderly but it's only when you get close you notice it's created using the traditional surface print technique which gives it a hand-stamped finish.

I'm also excited to see some of the seminars being hosted during the show. Sadly I can only attend one of the four days and it's really hard trying to choose which day to visit because the seminar programme looks to be a really diverse range of interesting discussions and talks.

The KLC Panel Discussion on Inspiring Interior Design hosted by Jenny Gibbs, Principal of KLC Design School, promises to be a lively debate and features, amongst others, Sara Cosgrove from Harrods and Paul Fishpool from Candy & Candy so I think that is a must. I definitely want to see Min Hogg and Nicky Haslam looking back over the last 35 years in design which I think will be super insightful and interesting.

I'm also strangely compelled to visit the Superyacht Design Panel Discussion... even though I know nothing about yachts, least of all superyachts, I do think it would be a fascinating insight into another world of interiors that you just don't come across every day. And for me, that is what keeps Decorex so special and exciting and thrilling.
