Behind the Scenes - Limelight hogger

Apologies for the radio silence on the blog the last few days. Things have been a little crazy here trying to complete the finishing touches to the new stock and get it all photographed and edited ready for sale on the website.

I just wanted to share with you all a cute behind the scenes snap from the photoshoot for the new West Egg arrivals:

As you can see Alfie was pretty keen on hogging the limelight and casually wandered into so many of the shots. I LOVE this beautiful vintage French armoire; the simple shape, charming style & fabulous muted tones of the Annie Sloan paints Chateaux Grey & Old White all combine perfectly and the end result is absolutely stunning.

This armoire along with the rest of the new stock will all be uploaded and available from next week so watch this space! For enquiries about this piece please email info@westegg.co.uk or call 0207 060 2975.

Restoration Project: Hat Stand

This is a "Before & After" on a wooden hat stand I restored for a client. The hat stand had 5 coats of paint on it and was badly chipped in places. The client asked for the paint to be stripped off, then the wood stained, polished and waxed.

Here is the hat stand "before". From the wood it was painted white (really thick primer paint), then cream, white again, green and finally black.

In this photo you can start to see the paint coming off the legs. It was incredibly time-consuming applying the Mylands stripper and then carefully taking each layer of paint at a time. The curves of the wood and the tiny nooks made this project really pain-staking work.

Here you can see right down to the wood though the different layers of paint:

Progress being made, slowly but surely:

And finally the best bit, the "After" photos - so at this end stage the hat stand has been stripped, stained with van dyke wood stain, polished and waxed.

All the thoughts of hard work have faded away to be replaced with a massive sense of accomplishment and happily, the client was really thrilled with the end result.

If you have a restoration project you'd like to discuss please email restoration@westegg.co.uk or call Louisa on 0207 060 2975.

Vintage French Armoire...Sneak Preview

The French have a legendary sense of style and the French country home is idolised as the perfect blend of laid-back charm and effortless elegance. Bringing that sense of style to your own home can be tricky. The key to creating an authentic French country feel to any room is to avoid cheap imitations and go for one or two original unique pieces. This vintage French armoire is the perfect example. The armoire is a versatile free-standing wooden cupboard that can be used in any room. In a bedroom or bathroom the shelves are filled with clean laundry and folded linens, in a kitchen or dining environment it is laden with tableware, glasses; anything goes.

I sourced this armoire from Eastern France, it was badly neglected and the doors were hanging off broken hinges. After a lot of TLC it is close to being finished. These photos are a sneak preview just for you! The colour on the doors is close to what the final colour will be. All that is left is the second coat, some waxing and sanding and hanging the doors back on. Once it's finished, it will of course be available to buy through the West Egg online store at www.westegg.co.uk.
